General - On race morning the TRNT Stewards were conducting stable compliance checks of runners engaged to compete at the Darwin Turf Club race meeting.

The gelding presented for inspection by trainer P Cole as IKNOW WHERE YOULIV was in fact identified as the gelding A ROMAN ROAD listed as being trained by C Pollard. Upon investigation, it was established that both geldings had arrived at the Darwin Turf Club on course stables on 11 October, 2020 via Darwin Horse Transport. Trainer P Cole had inadvertently taken custody of A ROMAN ROAD and trainer C Pollard had inadvertently taken custody of IKNOW WHERE YOULIV. Both trainers had submitted incorrect stable returns as neither had taken steps to identity that they had commenced training the correct gelding. Mr Cole had nominated and accepted for IKNOW WHERE YOULIV to compete in race 5. The gelding was subsequently withdrawn by order of the Stewards at 7.26am.

At a subsequent inquiry the Stewards were satisfied that neither trainer had engaged in any dishonest or improper conduct in relation to this matter. Trainer P Cole pleaded guilty to a charge of negligence under AR227(a). The specifics of the charge were that his negligence in failing to properly identify IKNOW WHERE YOULIV could have led to a breach of AR99 by presenting the incorrect horse to race. P Cole was fined the sum of $500.

Trainer C Pollard pleaded guilty to a charge of negligence under AR227(a). The specifics were that his negligence in failing to properly identify A ROMAN ROAD had resulted in a breach of AR103 for lodging incorrect details in the stable return for the gelding. C Pollard was fined the sum of $200.

Both trainers undertook to review their stable management procedures.
