Race 1: 3yo & Up TROBIS Maiden 1200m
Stewards interviewed trainer P Cole regarding his riding instructions as his stable had multiple runners in this event. Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke regarding his riding instructions as his stable had multiple runners in this event.
ACUMINATE (P Denton) – Yielded ground from the 500m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was lame in the near fore. Trainer G Clarke must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.
ACACIA ROAD (P Shiers) – Bumped at the start. Bumped at the 650m. Under pressure on straightening and compounded from the 200m. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding was lame in the off fore. Trainer G Lefoe must present a veterinary clearance for the gelding prior to racing again.
HAJIME NAOKI (A Lindsay) – Commenced awkwardly and dipped at the start. Bumped at the 650m.
OBLIGATORY (J Todd) – Bumped at the start.
NEWMATIC SANDS (B Huppatz) - Bumped at the start.
STROKE OF MAGIC (V Arnott) - Bumped at the start. Raced wide throughout.
General – Apprentice A Lindsay advised the Stewards that she was unable to claim down to her advertised MRW of 55kg. She subsequently claimed down to 56kg on her engagements in races 1 and 2. This information was disseminated on race morning. As apprentice A Lindsay had previously been placed on notice in regards to not being able to ride at her MRW she was fined $200 for each breach under NT77(c).
1st OBLIGATORY 2ND GLOBAL WONDER 3RD NEWMANTIC SANDS
Race 2: 0-58 1200m
KALMAR (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that he had been unable to hold the lead and when crossed by another runner leaving the 900m his mount lay outwards and he lost momentum racing into the first turn. He explained that the gelding was then off the bit and despite his urgings, failed to respond and did not finish the race off as anticipated. A veterinary examination was conducted and it was noted the gelding coughed after the event.
MARSALIS (A Nicholls) – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: 0-64 1100m
Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke regarding his riding instructions as his stable had multiple runners in this event.
ANOTHER BIT (A Nicholls) – When questioned rider advised that his mount lay outwards considerably in the early and middle stages but raced truly in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G Clarke will consider a gear change to improve the geldings’ tractability.

Race 4: BM76 Australia Day Cup 1000m
At the request of SKY this start time of this event was rescheduled to 4.28pm.
EASTWOOD (A Lindsay) – Changed stride passing the 700m and again near the 450m. Shifted outwards from heels on straightening to improve. Cast the near fore plate in running.
SEBRAKATE (P Shiers) – Cast the near fore plate in running.
LANIGERA (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that whilst the gelding was racing up in class his mount had travelled comfortably outside the leader in the early and middle stages but was under pressure on straightening and yielded ground from thereon. Trainer G Clarke expressed disappointment in the performance as he had expected the gelding the race competitively despite the rise in class. A post race veterinary examination revealed the gelding had an elevated heart rate. A swab sample was taken.
SHAMPERS (P Denton) – Cantankerous in the mounting enclosure prior to the race. Underwent a veterinary examination behind the barriers and was cleared to compete.
TORCHBEARER (W Davis) – Raced wide throughout.

FAITH AND LOVE (A Lindsay) – Bumped at the start.
CAPTAIN HEDDERWICK (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped.
DUNKIRK (V Arnott) – Cast the off hind in running.
1ST FASHIONETTI 2ND CAPTAIN HEDDERWICK 3RD FAITH AND LOVE
Race 6: CL2 1600m
COMOGLI (V Arnott) – Bumped shortly after the start. Contacted the inside running rail near the 650m and became unbalanced losing ground.
ISLAND DANCER (J Todd) – The off side winker detached from the bridle near the 700m.
DEEP SEEDED (W Davis) – Raced wide throughout. Returned having bled from the off side nostril. Trainer P Cole was advised that the gelding must gallop satisfactorily in the presence of the Stewards prior to racing again.
MON LOUIS (B Huppatz) – Bumped shortly after the start.
