General: J Lyon replaced P Hall as the rider of TIGER TRAP after that rider was delayed coming from the airport.
NIC NAC (J Philpot) – Commenced awkwardly
TESTINO (V Arnott) – Crowded for room on jumping bumping with another runner.
EXCELTARA (L Crow) – Inclined to lay inwards under pressure down the length of the straight.
TIGER TRAP (J Lyon) – Knuckled on jumping.
TOFFIATO (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly.
ALVIN PURPLE (W kerford) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner.
ELEMENATAE (C Hunter) – Bounded on jumping and then crowded for room losing some ground. Raced wide throughout.
1ST STAR OF MONSOON 2ND EXCELTARA 3RD TIGER TRAP
Race 2: Ladbroke IT 1200m
Trainer L Whittle was interviewed in regards to the riding instructions she intended to issue to her riders bearing in mind she had multiple runners in this event.
THE TROOPER (P Hall) – Crowded for room on jumping.
AWESOME MO (S Tsaikos) – Commenced awkwardly bumping with another runner and unbalancing its rider. Cast its off fore plate in running.
THE EXCHEQUER (J Todd) – Crowded for room on jumping.
SOUTHERN BOLT (J Lyon) – Shifted outwards on jumping bumping with another runner. A veterinary examination of the gelding failed to reveal any apparent abnormalities.
FUTURE DREAMS (B Huppatz) – Dipped and bumped with another runner on jumping.
MEDIATED (P Denton) – Commenced awkwardly.
General: J Lyon was found guilty of a charge under AR129(2) which states:- A rider must take all reasonable and permissible measures throughout a race to ensure that the rider’s horse is given full opportunity to win or to obtain the best possible place in the field.
The specifics of the charge being that leaving the 300m until inside the 100m, he failed to ride SOUTHERN BOLT with sufficient vigour or urgency to improve when there was clear running between KUMERLINGS and KING CRAB. The Stewards were of the opinion that in the circumstances, it was reasonable and permissible for him to have attempted to improve his mount’s position to ensure that SOUTHERN BOLT was given full opportunity to obtain the best possible position in the field. J Lyon had his licence to ride in races suspended from midnight the 2nd May, to expire midnight the 22nd May, 4 meetings (3 NT and 1 Vic). He was advised of his right of appeal.

APPANGE (A Lindsay) – Slow into stride.
MIRACOLI (J Lyon) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
TURN ON (S Tsaikos) – Momentarily crowded for room between runners at the 700m having to steady off heels.
ALICE BAND (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly losing ground. Inclined to lay outwards into the first turn.
MIRACHEEVA (B Huppatz) – Raced wide throughout.
NORTHERN FACTOR (W Davis) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.
CONGE (C Hunter) – Slow into stride.

Race 4: JJ’s Waste & Recycling 1600m
VALLEY PRINCE (S Tsaikos) – Rider dropped his whip at the 50m.
THE GRADSTAND (L Crow) – Inclined to over-race into the first turn getting its head up.

Race 5: Scope Building 1600m
DOON BUGGY (L Crow) – Commenced to race wide from the 1200m.
ESCALATOR (J Lyon) – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost considerable ground. Trainer D Leech was advised that prior to that gelding again starting in a race, it must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards with the emphasis being on jumping with the field.
