General – All runners engaged in the Darwin Cup underwent a veterinary examination on Friday 29 July, 2021 and swab samples were collected for the purpose of out of competition testing. I AM THE FOX and DENON ROMAN were further examined on Sunday 1 August, 2021 and cleared to compete.

On Sunday 1 August, 2021 the Stewards interviewed trainer James Bell in relation to his stabling arrangements after arriving on course in Darwin on Friday 30 July, 2021. Acting on a report and after viewing the CCTV footage available, the Stewards established that Mr Bell had failed to comply with the requirement to locate his horses in the stables allocated by the DTC and further did not secure his feed in a lockable feed room despite one being allocated for his use. His further behaviour and actions after arriving on course led to a high probability that his horses had been exposed to a feed contamination. Subsequently ASAHI BEARING (R3) and HOPE YA DON’T MIND (R4) were withdrawn by order of the Stewards under the provisions of AR20(d).
