General: Stewards opened an inquiry into the late scratching of LITTLE KRAKATOA from race 1 at today’s race meeting.

Prior to race 1 during the course of Stewards conducting their normal pre-race identity checks of runners engaged to race, it was established that the gelding presented to race was not in fact LITTLE KRAKATOA and it had been verified that it was a 6YO gelding named HARD CORE.

It was further established that the gelding LITTLE KRAKATOA was in NSW where a mix up had occurred at a paddock when loading the correct horse on the float for transit to the NT.

In relation to this incident, trainer Mr Gillett subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under AR99 (a) in that he presented the incorrect horse to race as LITTLE KRAKATOA in race 1 at today’s meeting. Mr Gillett was fined the sum of $1000. In arriving at this penalty, Stewards were satisfied that Mr Gillett had been negligent in not confirming the identity of the gelding and that there was no attempt to be deceitful or dishonest and further that he had co-operated fully during the inquiry.
