General – Stewards inquired into jockey S Fawke’s handling of TRIDENT in the home straight. The rider reported the gelding lay inwards throughout the event. After viewing the patrol films, hearing evidence from trainer M Nyhan and considering the gelding’s previous racing manner, jockey S Fawke was found guilty of a charge under AR129(2). The specifics of the charge were that from approximately the 300m to the winning post he did fail to ride his mount with sufficient vigour or fully test the gelding in the run to the finish when in the circumstances it was reasonable and permissible to do so to ensure that TRIDENT was given full opportunity to obtain the best place in the field. Jockey S Fawke had his license to ride in races suspended from midnight 19 June, 2022 until after 3 July, 2022 (3 NT and 2 SA meetings). In arriving at this penalty Stewards took into account that as a visiting jockey this was his first breach in relation to this rule and that feature NT race meetings are included in the period of suspension.
