Race 1: Silks Laser Clinics BMNT Handicap – 1100m

There was a delay following the race to allow trainer K Hann and jockey S Wiseman (ROYAL TYKE) to view the patrol vision for them to consider an objection, but after doing so a protest was not lodged and correct weight was semaphored.

NIEWAND (V Arnott) – Following the unplaced performance a veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have an elevated heart rate and blood in the mouth from a laceration to the tongue.

ROYAL TYKE (S Wiseman) – Steadied from heels when racing keenly near the 700m and again steadied and mistrode from heels at the 550m.

General: On inquiry it was established that approaching the 700m ROYAL TYKE (S Wiseman) raced keenly and had to be steadied back from the heels of IDEAS MAN (P Shiers). When negotiating the first turn IDEAS MAN shifted outwards marginally and ROYAL TYKE attempted to improve to the inside of that runner and a short distance later IDEAS MAN shifted back inwards and when continuing to race keenly ROYAL TYKE again had to be steadied by its rider and mistrode from heels near the 550m. In the circumstances, Stewards were of the opinion that the run inside IDEAS MAN near the 650m had not fully presented an opportunity for jockey S Wiseman to safely improve her mount into clear running at that stage and she was therefore advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
