General: All acceptors for the Palmerston Sprint were subject to a veterinary examination on Thursday 28 July, 2022 and blood samples were collected for the purpose of out of competition testing.

 

Race 1: Garrards Horse and Hound 0-66 Handicap – 1600m

MIROKU (V Arnott) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages, failing to settle and as a result raced wide throughout.

FEED THE MONSTER (B Rawiller) – Slow into stride.

Race 2: Darwin Racing 0-58 Handicap – 1300m

Stewards interviewed trainer T Halter in relation to the riding instructions she intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in this event.

ZOU DER ZEE (J Hampson) – After arriving at the barriers was found to have blood in its mouth from a loose tooth and was withdrawn at 1.39.pm on veterinary advice.

The following betting deductions were applicable to successful bets.

1st - 17 cents win, 13 cents place, 2nd – 14 cents place, 3rd – 13 cents place.

MAGNUS A GO GO (S Fawke) – Steadied outwards when racing close to heels passing the 650m.

MR BOOMJANGLES (J Maskiell) – Rider reported he lost full use of his near side iron passing the 200m and as a result he was unable to fully test his mount out in the run to the finish. After examining his gear following the event it was established that the stirrup leather buckle had worked loose during running and whilst his stirrup was not detached, it had prevented him from using it properly, placing him at a disadvantage.

REAL DIVINE (J Philpot) – Raced wide throughout.

IMA PUPPET (P Denton) – Momentarily steadied, losing ground when racing in restricted room passing the 600m.

LATEST BENTLEY (D Holland) – Lay inwards under pressure over the final 100m.

Race 3: Administrator’s Cup 0-66 – 1200m

MR CASHMAN (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly. Momentarily held tight passing the 800m.

LITTLE TOWN BLUES (W Davis) – The gelding returned having bled from both nostrils. Trainer Mr P Cole was advised that as this was the first occasion the gelding will incur the mandatory embargo in accordance with AR79(4).

ZILX (S Tsaikos) – Commenced awkwardly.

LEANNA BELLE (C Hunter) – Slow into stride. Raced wide throughout.

MYSTERY FLYER (W Davis) – Shifted grounds outwards under pressure over the concluding 100m.

Race 5: Mindil Beach Casino Resort TROBIS Class 2 Plate – 1100m

MT BULLER (J Keating) – Tightened approaching the 400m and steadied outwards across heels.

COMETH THE HOUR (J Hampson) – Carried outwards and raced wide from the 400m.

KEEN AS A BEAN (S Wiseman) – Bounded at the start.

ZIP LANE (P Shiers) – Steadied outwards near the 400m. Shifted outwards under pressure over the final 100m.

ABOVE EVERAGE (C Hunter) – Shifted inwards when commencing to compound near the 400m. The gelding returned having bled from both nostrils. Trainer J Gleeson was advised that as this was the first occasion the gelding will incur the mandatory embargo in accordance with AR79(4).

CASSATT (W Davis) – Commenced awkwardly.

STARLITE REBEL (S Fawke) – Commenced awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.

MANLY COVE (J Todd) – Raced wide from the 600m.

Race 7: BET365 Palmerston Sprint – 1200m

THE CAPTAIN (A Nicholls) – Raced wide throughout.

EASTWOOD (P Shiers) – Bumped shortly after the start

DEVIL’S TEMPTATION (C Hunter) – Crowded and bumped shortly after the start.

EASY BEAST (S Fawke) – Cantankerous in the mounting enclosure. Got its head in the air near the 650m losing momentum and the rider advised that the gelding had resented the kickback at that stage of the race.

MILITARY ZONE (W Davis) – Bumped shortly after the start. Raced wide throughout.

ROYAL TYKE (S Wiseman) – Steadied passing the 650m. The veterinarian reported that the gelding returned having bled from the right nostril. Trainer K Hann was advised the mare must perform in a satisfactorily gallop in the presence of the Stewards prior to racing again in accordance with AR79.

MIGHTY MURT (J Philpot) – Commenced awkwardly and steadied outwards shortly after the start.
