Prior to correct weight being given, the rider of the second placegetter S Tsaikos requested to view the Stewards’ patrol footage of the back straight with a view to protesting, as he was of the belief that he sustained interference which had impacted on his finishing position.
After viewing the footage, S Tsaikos (CUDJERIE) lodged a protest against the winner (TSUGURU) ridden by V Arnott alleging interference approaching the 1100m.
Evidence was taken from V Arnott and further evidence was taken from S Tsaikos.
After considering all the evidence, the ground lost in the interference and the beaten margin, Stewards upheld the protest and amended the placings.
In arriving at this decision, Stewards were of the view that approaching the 1100m, V Arnott permitted her mount to shift inwards when not sufficiently clear of (CUDJERIE) causing its rider to severely check his mount, losing several lengths. (CUDJERIE) was eventually able to gather momentum again before being beaten a long head by TSUGARU.
Stewards were satisfied that the interference sustained by CUDJERIE approaching the 1100m had cost the mare winning the race.
General – On inquiry jockey V Arnott (TSUGARU) was charged under AR131(a) and found guilty of engaging in careless riding. The specifics being that near the 1100m she permitted her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear, resulting in CUDJERIE (S Tsaikos) having to severely check his mount for a number of strides onto MALIBU EDITION (J Todd), which was tightened and had to check his mount. V Arnott had her license to ride in races suspended for 2 DTC meetings.
CUDJERIE (S Tsaikos) – Restrained at the 1100m when tightened for room losing considerable ground.
