General: Apprentice I Luximon in the presence of his master K Lamprecht, pleaded guilty to a whip breach charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he used his whip on 8 occasions (3 over) prior to the 100m with a total whip use to the finish of 19 strikes when winning the race. I Luximon had breached this rule in the race prior and was fined $400. I Luximon had previously been placed on notice by Stewards that if he continued to breach this rule, a suspension may be considered. Apprentice I Luximon had his licence to ride in races suspended for 1 Alice Springs meeting to expire midnight 28th April.

Jockey P Denton (A THOUSAND DEGREES) was found guilty of a charge under AR131(b) for failing to ride his mount out to the line failing to secure first position. Race 6: HAIR AT THE MEMO HANDICAP 1400m

ODDSOCK (C Hunter) – Reared as the start was effected and after dislodging its rider onto the barrier structure, then continued to rear uncontrollably. When a barrier attendant began to try to control the mare it eventually forced open the back gates and in the process the bridle and reins became detached. The mare then began to canter off entering into the home straight in the opposite direction to the field. At this stage the field was passing the 1200m. The mare remained at a slow pace eventually heading to the outside running rail where it remained until the top of the straight where it turned around and quickened stride when the field approached remaining along the outside fence avoiding any potential serious incident. Following the race, Stewards interviewed all riders who competed in the event and after viewing the patrol films were satisfied that the loose horse approaching the field had not compromised the fair running of the race, as no rider had reacted adversely in the situation. All riders confirmed that the loose horse had no impact on them riding their mounts out when rounding the turn and down to the finish and therefore the Stewards declared the race results valid.

When considering the provisions of AR204, Stewards were satisfied that ODDSOCK was not encumbered by any outside influence and that the mare reared dislodging its rider of its own accord as the start was effected. Stewards subsequently declared the mare to be a runner.

Stewards then considered a protest lodged by the rider of the second placegetter apprentice J Hampson (MIRACOLI) against the winner EQUAL BALANCE ridden by apprentice I Luximon alleging interference at the 450m. After considering the evidence and the patrol footage, Stewards dismissed the objection and declared correct weight.
