Stewards considered a protest lodged by A Nicholls, rider of the second placed ALL HARD WOOD against the winner TUBTHUMPER (W Davis) alleging interference near the 250m. Whilst it was established that near the 250m TUBTHUMPER did shift outwards and caused indirect interference to ALL HARD WOOD, the Stewards were not of the opinion that the ground lost in this incident was greater than ¾ length margin between both runners at the finish and therefore the objection was dismissed.
ALL HARD WOOD (A Nicholls) – Hampered when avoiding heels at the 250m.
FIELD COMMANDER (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly.
TUBTHUMPER (W Davis) – Shifted outwards and bumped another runner at the 250m.
LADY TUCAN (S Wiseman) – Bumped heavily and unbalanced at the 250m.
General – On inquiry jockey W Davis pleaded guilty to a charge of engaging in careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a). The specifics were that when riding TUBTHUMPER near the 250m he angled his mount outwards to improve when on terms with LADY TUCAN resulting in that mare being bumped heavily and unbalanced which in turn caused ALL HARD WOOD to be hampered when avoiding heels. W Davis was suspended from riding in races for 3 NT race meetings to expire after 8 July, 2023 and in addition was fined the sum of $750.
