VITESSE BREEZE (S Tsaikos) – Steadied off heels into the first turn.
BEEP TEST (K Sardelic) – Checked off heels approaching the 200m when tightened for room along the rails.
General: Subsequent to the event, K Sardelic, rider of the third placegetter (BEEP TEST) lodged a protest against the second placegetter BETTER NOT FUSS (L Maloney) alleging interference approaching the 200m. Evidence was taken from both riders, trainers R Viney, P Gardner and S Logan representing apprentice L Maloney. It was established that BETTER NOT FUSS had shifted inwards approaching the 200m causing BEEP TEST to be tightened for room along the rails and having to check losing some ground. After considering all the evidence, Stewards were of the opinion that BETTER NOT FUSS was beginning to improve its position away from BEEP TEST which was not improving, when it rolled inwards causing the interference and once BEEP TEST gained clear running, it continued to lose ground away from BETTER NOT FUSS being beaten by almost three lengths on the line. On those grounds, Stewards dismissed the protest and ordered that the placings stand.
Subsequently, apprentice L Maloney in the presence of senior rider S Logan pleaded guilty to a charge under AR131(a) for careless riding.
The specifics of the charge being that approaching the 200m, he did allow his mount to shift inwards when insufficiently clear of BEEP TEST ridden by K Sardelic, causing that runner to be tightened for room along the rail and having to take hold and check his mount losing some ground. L Maloney had his licence to ride in races suspended to commence midnight the 27th July and to expire after midnight the 9th August, 1 Alice Springs meeting. L Maloney was advised of his right of appeal.
