General: All acceptors for the Palmerston Sprint were subject to a veterinary examination on Thursday 31 July, 2025 and blood samples were collected for the purpose of out of competition testing.
Race 1: Silk Laser Clinics Mile 0-66 – 1600m
HENNESSY LAD (P Hamblin) – Bumped and unbalanced near the 1400m.
HE’S ESSENTIAL (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly. Pulled up by its rider shortly after the finish. A post-race veterinary examination revealed a fracture to the near-fore leg and the gelding was subsequently euthanised on humane grounds.
EQUAL BALANCE (J Hampson) – Shifted outwards across heels to obtain clear running passing the 200m.
THE MEN WENT HOME (P Denton) –Bumped and carried outwards approaching the 1400m. Raced wide from the 550m. Returned with blood on the near fore hoof from a minor injury that required no further veterinary treatment.
THE FINAL WORD (S Logan) – Commenced awkwardly. Bumped and crowded for room for several strides approaching the 1400m. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to have returned with an elevated heart rate.
GRINZINGER BISHOP (H Le Blanc) – Slow into stride.
FIERCE LEGEND (A Sweeney) – Lay inwards and contacted another runner approaching the 1400m.
General - On inquiry it was established that approaching the 1400m FIERCE LEGEND (A Sweeney) lay inwards despite the efforts of its rider, bumped and crowded THE FINAL WORD (S Logan) for several strides which in turn bumped and unbalanced HENNESSY LAD (P Hamblin).

Race 2: Administrator’s Cup 0-58 – 1300m
RISING FIRE (J Lyon) – Crowded and impeded near the 250m.
BLOWN AWAY (A Sweeney) – Commenced awkwardly.
BEATIFICATION (S Logan) – Slow into stride.
THE ALBION (J Todd) – Commenced awkwardly.
BAD MAN (H Le Blanc) – Began to yield ground from the 600m losing contact with the field. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Due to the poor performance, trainer D Leech was advised that the gelding must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again.
THE STIFMEISTER (J Booth) – Lay outwards under pressure from the 200m.
RISING WATER (P Shiers) – Slow into stride.
ROC DE RUSSIAN (K Sardelic) – Raced wide throughout.

Race 3: Silks Darwin Maiden Plate SW – 1200m
NATURE GIRL (J Hampson) – Declared a late scratching at 11.43am on veterinary advice after a mishap in the horse stalls shortly after arriving on course. Trainer K Healy was advised that he must present a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
CEE PEE ONE (J Lyon) – Crowded between runners and restrained at the start. When questioned regarding the unplaced performance rider advised that in his opinion his mount would be better suited over an increased distance. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
GO BARNEY GO (K Sardelic) – Raced wide throughout.
NUNNIONG (A Nicholls) – Commenced awkwardly.
CASSETTE (J Booth) – Held up rounding the home turn.
JUELENE (S Logan) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Lay outwards from the 600m until entering the home straight.
MY REWARD (S Fawke) – Commenced awkwardly and bumped. Raced keenly from the 1000m to 800m.

Race 4: Victoria Village Katherine Handicap 0-66 – 1200m
MR MARRAKECH (A Nicholls) – Declared a late scratching at 1.21pm on veterinary advice after sustaining an abrasion to its hind quarters as it was being unloaded from the float.
CANTON KID (P Shiers) – Lay out through the middle stages.
AMERICAN JAZZ (J Todd) – Lay outwards when tested with the whip in the straight. Returned having bled from its right nostril. Trainer G Clarke advised that the gelding would now be retired.
TELLEZ (P Denton) – Returned having cast both hind plates.

Race 5: bet365 TROBIS Handicap C2 4&5YO – 1100m
BUADES (J Booth) – Held up for clear running from on straightening until leaving the 200m.
GO GO DOLLY (J Hampson) – Raced wide for the majority of the race.
1ST BUCKLEUP BUDDY 2ND BUADES 3RD PREDICTING
Race 6: Cleanaway Handicap 0-62 – 1000m
Stewards interviewed trainer K Petrick in relation to the riding instructions she intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.
BLACK ZOUS (J Booth) – Slow to begin.
HELLIVIT (P Denton) – Raced wide throughout.
LITTLE DITTY (D Gillett) – Bumped at the start.
PATRIOTIC KING (J Todd) – Veered inwards on jumping. Cast the near-fore plate in running.
HEY LITTLE SISTER (S Tsaikos) – Bounded at the start. Attempted to buck near the 950m getting its head in the air. Bucked for several strides from the 900m and took no further competitive part in the race. Trainer C Pollard was advised that the mare must barrier trial to the satisfaction of the Stewards before racing again.

Race 7: bet365 Palmerston Sprint – 1200m
All runners arrived on course 2 hours prior to start time.
Stewards interviewed trainer G Clarke in relation to the riding instructions he intended to issue as the stable had multiple runners in the event.
IDEAS MAN (S Tsaikos) – Bumped shortly after the start.
ZOURATA (D Gillett) – Raced wide throughout.
EARLY CROW (J Lyon) – Bumped at the start. Cast the off-hind plate in running.
PHAROAH MAGIC (W Davis) – Shifted outwards under pressure over the final stages.
FIELD OF FLUTES (K Sardelic) – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages and wide from the 600m.
HELLO WORLD (S Logan) – Commenced awkwardly.
1ST EARLY CROW 2ND BON’S PRIDE 3RD FLYING ANNIE
General:
Post-race swab samples taken from all winners, BON’S PRIDE (R7) and FLYING ANNIE (R7).
Pre-race samples were taken from: GRINZINGER BISHOP, BEATIFICATION, THE ALBION, HOLLERBYEBABY, JUELENE, BUADES, GO GO DOLLY, TO THE POINT and all runners engaged in Race 7. A post mortem sample was collected from HE’S ESSENTIAL (R1).
All riders were breath tested for the presence of alcohol prior to riding.

Race 1 – Trainer K Healy (GRINZINGER BISHOP) was fined $100 for the late rider declaration, NT111.
Race 2 & 3 – Trainer D Leech (BAD MAN & HOLLERBYE BABY) was fined $100 for the late rider declaration, NT111.
Race 2 – Jockey S Fawke was fined $500 for a whip breach, AR132(7)(a)(ii).
