Race 5: The Cabinet Shop Tradies Day April 11th Handicap 0-64 - 1600m

Trainer K Petrick was questioned in regards to the riding instructions she intended to issue her riders as she had multiple runners in this event.

DUTY (J Philpot) – Bumped with another runner on jumping. Steadied for a stride off heels at the 800m.

BODMIN BOY (D Hirini) – Bumped with another runner on jumping.

MUMMSIE (I Luximon) – Restrained into the first turn when unable to obtain the lead. Shifted outwards at the 800m.

General: Stewards questioned I Luximon with concerns as to his ride on MUMMSIE in this event at the start and in particular, coming off the fence at the 800m to race wide when he was already racing in a potentially winning position.

I Luximon firstly explained that his intention was to lead in the race but was taken on by STARTON heading into the first turn, so he decided to surrender the lead to that runner otherwise he would have raced too hard early.

In regards to why he took his mount out wide at the 800m, I Luximon explained that in his opinion, the inside of the track was racing a little heavy after all the rain we have had so he elected to take his mount out wide to obtain firmer ground.

Stewards acknowledged that whilst the move at the 800m did not cause any interference to other runners, it was of concern that the move was abrupt and potentially compromising to the safety of both horse and rider, as there were runners behind him at that point. I Luximon was placed on notice and advised to ride in a manner that is not open for question.
