Race 2: DCOH Guineas In Six Weeks Open – 1300m

Following the race apprentice D Barton, rider of the fourth placed ATLANTIC OCEAN lodged a protest against the second placed AWASH ridden by jockey J Todd alleging interference in the straight. It was established that AWASH shifted out under pressure in the straight and after initially bumping ATLANTIC OCEAN near the 200m, continued to shift out and brushed with and impeded that gelding on multiple occasions inside the final 100m. After considering the evidence and viewing the patrol films, the Stewards were not of the opinion that any ground lost in this interference was greater than the margin between both runners at the finish and therefore the objection was dismissed.

GREAT BUY (R Vigar) – Stewards approved the withdrawal of the gelding on race morning when identified as being lame in the near fore leg after being shod. Trainer T Gillett will be required to present a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding racing again.

AWASH (J Todd) – Shifted ground when laying outwards on straightening. In doing so bumped with another runner at the 200m and brushed with that same runner inside the final 100m.

ATLANTIC OCEAN (D Barton) – Bumped by another runner at the 200m and impeded when brushed by another runner inside the final 100m.

CARAT TIME (D Gillett) – Raced wide for the majority of the event and lay inwards under pressure in the straight.

RISING WATER (A Sweeney) – Rider reported his mount mistrode for no apparent reason near the 1100m and contacted the running rail becoming unbalanced.

MERIMBULA (A Sweeney) – Bumped at the start.

PAFITIS (J Todd) – Bumped at the start.

FORGING AHEAD (B Cray) – When questioned rider advised that his mount lay outwards into the first turn and shifted abruptly across heels losing momentum. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 5: Mitcon Projects Handicap 0-58 – 1600m
