General: Stewards questioned D Barton (LEAN ON ME) as to her failing to test her mount from the top of the straight to approximately the 200m. D Barton could offer no explanation other than the mare’s already poor form when finishing well back in its recent starts. Stewards advised D Barton that whilst the mare was back in the field turning for home, it was still in a position to improve as it was holding its ground with other runners at that point. D Barton was further advised that her explanation was not accepted by the Stewards and she must ride in a manner which does not leave her rides open for questioning going forward.

General: Subsequent to this event, rider of the third place-getter, apprentice L Maloney (DOLCE D’AMOUR) lodged a protest against the second place-getter STELLA BYSTARLIGHT (J Philpot) alleging interference approaching the 600m which resulted in him losing ground.
After interviewing all parties and reviewing relevant patrol footage, Stewards were of the opinion that the margin lost (2 lengths) in the interference to DOLCE D’AMOUR which was slowly gathering momentum again, was greater than the margin beaten (1.5 lengths) on the line and therefor upheld the protest and amended the placings accordingly. J Philpot was issued with a severe reprimand for allowing her mount to shift ground when insufficiently clear of another runner.
